Élodie Orsei is redefining the landscape of singer-songwriters with her EP ‘Fleurish,’ blending poetic lyricism with profound themes of personal growth and self-acceptance.
Élodie Orsei, a burgeoning singer-songwriter hailing from a background rich in poetry and passion for music, has swiftly made her mark with her new EP, “Fleurish.” In this exclusive interview, Élodie opens up about her musical evolution, the creative process behind her new EP, and the profound messages woven into her songs.
Singular Culture: How did your journey as a singer-songwriter begin? What inspired you to start writing and performing your own music?
Élodie Orsei: My journey into music began with a deep-seated love for poetry. Writing has always been a form of self-expression for me, a way to articulate my thoughts and emotions. Throughout my high school and university years, I amassed a collection of writings that eventually yearned to be shared through music. It wasn’t a question of ‘if’ I would pursue music, but rather ‘when’.
As a music artist, what significance does music hold for you personally?
Music is my sanctuary, my way of navigating and understanding the world around me. It’s a medium where I can be completely honest and vulnerable, expressing the complexities of human emotions that often go unspoken.
What was it about the idea of “Fleurish” that inspired you to use it as your album title? What kind of impact or message do you hope “Fleurish” has on your listeners?
“Fleurish” is a play on words combining “Fleur” (flower in French) and “Flourish” (to grow and prosper in English). It encapsulates the essence of personal growth and acceptance. Each song on the EP delves into themes of self-love and self-discovery, inspired by personal experiences.
Can you walk us through your creative process for crafting the EP “Fleurish”? How did you approach songwriting, production, and conceptualizing the album?
For me, it always starts with lyrics. I believe in the power of words to convey deep emotions and narratives. Originally, I envisioned naming the EP “Bloom,” but being French Canadian, I wanted to infuse a touch of my heritage into the title. The bilingual lyrics of the EP reflect my identity and allow me to reach a wider audience.
The album art, depicting flowers blossoming from my mouth, serves as a metaphor for growth through words. It’s a visual representation of how my lyrics aim to nurture personal evolution and introspection.
Could you share some details, including any memorable moments and challenges you faced when making the EP “Fleurish”?
Recording “Fleurish” was both a journey of discovery and a labor of love. Working from my home studio provided the flexibility to experiment and refine each track until it resonated authentically with my vision. One particular challenge was re-recording an entire song to capture the exact emotions I wanted to convey. It was a demanding process but ultimately rewarding.

Is there a particular song in “Fleurish” EP that holds special significance to you? If so, why?
Each song on “Fleurish” holds a special place in my heart, but “Fleur” stands out. It’s a tribute to my grandmother and mother, focusing on themes of body acceptance, self-love, and my journey to contentment with my appearance. The song explores the beauty found in embracing our unique physical traits, celebrating our familial connections.
Our favorite song from the EP is “That Girl”. Could you share with us the inspiration for “That Girl”? Is there any particular situation or experience that inspired its creation?
“That Girl” is a reflection on reclaiming one’s inner joy and confidence. It’s a reminder to reconnect with the carefree spirit we embody in our youth, amidst the challenges and responsibilities of adulthood. The song was inspired by observing others and myself, noticing how easy it is to lose touch with the vibrant essence that defines us.
It’s been 2 years since you started putting out music on streaming platforms. How do you think your music has evolved over these 2 years, and are there particular themes or music styles you’re interested in exploring more in your future work?
A lot has changed in terms of how I approach my music. For my first release, I wrote all the lyrics myself and collaborated with others on the music aspect. I’ve learned and grown significantly since then. I now have a clearer vision of how I want my music to sound and how to effectively communicate that vision when working with others.
