Jeon Somi is back after a year with her second EP “Chaotic & Confused,” a five-track project she describes as a personal and musical milestone. At just 24, but nearly a decade into her career, Somi says the EP reflects the pressures of being a solo artist. “This album reflects my current chaotic chapter,” she said during a press interview in Seoul. “Each track reflects something I can do best right now.”

The 2nd lead single “Closer” is a stutter house experiment that opens with a melody sample from Sean Kingston’s 2007 hit “Beautiful Girls.” While the idea is intriguing, the execution feels more like a remix mash-up than a fully formed song. It’s meant to introduce a new era for Somi, but instead it struggles with identity and ends up feeling more messy than bold.

The rest of the EP jumps between genres. “Escapade” stands out with its indie rock and post-punk vibe, featuring distorted vocals and layered synths that suit Somi well. “Extra,” the prerelease track, is catchy and polished with a nu-disco and R&B feel, but its strength makes the remaining songs feel slightly underwhelming. The final track “Delu” is decent but lacks impact.

While the EP shows Somi pushing her boundaries, it doesn’t fully deliver. It feels more like a transitional project than a definitive statement. It might grow with time, but on first listen, it doesn’t quite hit.
