Tate McRae has announced her highly anticipated third album, “So Close To What,” set for release on February 21st via RCA Records. The album delves into the emotional journey of growing up, self-discovery, love, and navigating life’s uncertainties. With unfiltered lyricism and raw vulnerability, McRae captures the feeling of being on a path with no clear destination, yet learning and evolving along the way.

In addition to the album announcement, McRae dropped her new single, “2 Hands,” along with an official music video. Co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé), Lostboy (Tiësto, Kylie Minogue), and Amy Allen (Harry Styles, Justin Bieber), the song reflects McRae’s take on love and connection. “2 Hands” explores how sometimes, just being close to someone is enough, without needing constant reassurance or grand gestures.

The song continues the Y2K-inspired vibe McRae has showcased in her past work, featuring a catchy drum beat and masterfully crafted production. However, while the track is undeniably catchy, the melody doesn’t quite hit the same addictive heights as some of her previous singles. Despite its stronger songwriting and structure, including a standout bridge, some listeners may find it a little less captivating compared to hits like “Greedy.”

Directed by Bradley & Pablo (Rosalía, Charli XCX) and choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Cardi B, Victoria Monét), the fast-paced music video follows Tate on a joyride through suburbia.

While “2 Hands” may not be an instant hit like her earlier singles, it’s still a strong offering that highlights McRae’s growth as an artist and sets the tone for her upcoming album.
